Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine is a Philadelphia native was raised and born in the city. Pam her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, her father was appointed as City's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historic building. She graduated in 2005 from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was singing music major. Sullivan began her singing career as a contralto in the children's choir. She then joined a few years later in the adult group. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was not extensive at first "I did solos in church and someone wanted me to sign to a gospel label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't ready to do that," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. It was then that I had the chance to sing Accept The Grace God Gives me on Showtime Apollo. My audience was very supportive." Stevie Wonder sang her part during her grandsons 13th birthday party. Sullivan At the age of 15, was first signed to Jive Records. The label recorded her an entire album, but the album never came out. Sullivan was then removed from the record label. Missy Elliott was her producer for some songs on Her debut album. Among them "Backstabbers" by Timbaland, which Elliott composed, was a hit.
